The Blue Ribbon Eel is known to jump out of the aquarium and can be challenging to keep, that is why we recommend it only for expert aquarists. It should also be kept in a tight fitting lid or light diffuser panel. Be careful while feeding the Blue Ribbon Eel as its eyesight is not that good and it may end up in biting your hand, so we suggest you to use feeding tongs instead of using fingers.
The Blue Ribbon Eel is commonly referred to as Black Ribbon Eel, Blue Ribbon Eel, and Yellow Ribbon Eel. With its beautiful coloration, it makes a striking display animal for the home aquarium. The Blue Ribbon Eel requires adequate hiding laces along with 3-5 inch live sand and 1 inch coral ruble on the aquarium bottom. The Blue Ribbon Eel is born hermaphrodites and go through color change as it becomes male.
It grows up to 50 inch and should be kept in a tank not less than 75 gallon. The Blue Ribbon Eel might bother sessile invertebrates and other corals, that is why it is considered reef safe but with caution. Like many eels, the ribbon eel is sometimes thought to be angry or aggressive, because its mouth is often open, appearing ready to strike. In reality, the eel is simply breathing. The Blue Ribbon Eel is carnivores and prefers to eat live feeder shrimps.
