Matrix provides both external and internal microporous surface area, and these pores are ideally sized for the support of nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria. This allows Matrix to remove nitrate along with ammonia and nitrite, in the same filter.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMatrix is completely inert and will not breakdown. It doesn’t need to be replaced.
