Choosing your fish is half the fun of setting up an aquarium and it’s important that you take the time to do your research properly so you know you’re making the right investments and so you know your fish will live happily together, swimming along peacefully side by side.

As we all know, fish are incredibly beautiful to look at and if you choose your varieties wisely, you will certainly end up with a stunning and very colourful aquarium environment. But which fish to choose?

If it’s colour you’re after, the royal gramma is an amazing choice and you definitely won’t regret filling your tank with these. The purples and yellows are incredible to behold and you’ll struggle to find a prettier fish. Once they find their fins and make themselves at home, you’ll find them to be very confident little fish and a joy to look after.

Or what about the fairy wrasse? These are spectacular to look at and you’ll find they have all the colours of the rainbow on their scales, which makes them fascinating to watch as they swim about. It’s best to only have one male in a tank, however, as they can get a little territorial.

For beginners, however, there’s nothing better than the clownfish - just like the ones in Finding Nemo! They’re beautiful and orange, don’t need much space and can live a long time, so they’re a brilliant choice if you are just starting out with your aquarium. They’re friendly and fun, and you may even be able to hand feed them if you’re lucky.
